SRI AMAN: In a significant boost to the local community's skills and employment prospects, 80 residents from Kampung Kara, Kampung Gua, Kampung Sabu, and Kampung Temudok in Sri Aman participated in a series of specialised courses under the Community Driver Development Programme organised by Sarawak Skills Sri Aman, the Sarawak Public Communications Unit reported.

The two-day training, which started on Feb 12, was divided into three courses: Basic Hydroponic Nutrient Film Technique (NFT) Planting, attended by 40 participants; Basic Bun and Pastry Making, with 20 participants; and Basic Selampai Buriek Sewing, also attended by 20 individuals.

Sarawak Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Minister Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn highlighted the significance of these short courses funded by the ministry's grant.

He emphasised the importance of skill development in various fields for community members in selected areas. The initiative aims to produce skilled and competitive human capital aligned with current technological advancements.

The minister expressed gratitude towards Sarawak Skills for providing opportunities and a platform for Sri Aman residents to enhance their skills through these beneficial short programmes. The opening ceremony of Sarawak Skills Sri Aman and the closing ceremony of the Community Driver Development Programme were graced by the minister on Wednesday.

Sarawak Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Deputy Minister and Simanggang Assemblyman Datuk Francis Harden Hollis shared the community's enthusiasm for the new Sarawak Skills training centre. The centre not only offers a platform for local communities to upgrade their education and skills but also helps reduce transportation costs and living expenses for those participating in programmes organised by Sarawak Skills.

"As the representative of this community, I extend my congratulations and gratitude to Sarawak Skills for successfully establishing its branch in Simanggang town," he said.

All participants who completed the courses received certificates of participation and recognition from Sarawak Skills.
