KUALA LUMPUR: The Human Resources Ministry is conducting a study aimed at implementing a 24-hour social security protection scheme and expanding social security programmes for senior citizens.

Minister Steven Sim today said these schemes were to support Malaysia Madani's compassionate economy agenda.

"The ministry is conducting research and studies to introduce a 24-hour social security protection scheme and also to expand social security schemes for senior citizens."

He said this at his ministry's winding-up speech on the debate on the royal address at the Dewan Rakyat.

Earlier, he responded to a proposal by Kelvin Yii (Pakatan Harapan-Bandar Kuching), who had asked the ministry to study and implement long-term care insurance for senior citizens.

"The ministry's vision is to provide 24-hour social security protection for workers' groups in particular, and the Malaysian population in general.

"But we must consider various constraints, including the contribution costs per person."
