KUANTAN: A physiotherapist who was duped into believing she was making an investment early this year is now facing thousands of ringgit in debt.

The 25-year-old victim took a bank loan, borrowed from friends and emptied her own savings to invest RM234,160 in a Facebook investment scheme.

Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said the victim became "engrossed" with the scheme which she saw on Facebook on Jan 13.

"She was instructed to invest through an application allegedly known as Bybit.

"The bogus investment agent provided bank account numbers and the victim made a total of 11 transactions amounting RM234,160.

"She made the payments between Jan 15 and March 2," he said in a statement today.

Yahaya said the victim did not receive the profit as promised by the agent, and lodged a police report yesterday.

The case is being investigated for cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property under Section 420 of the Penal Code.

Yahaya advised the public not to be easily lured by investment schemes offered through social media and to conduct checks at semakmule.rmp.gov.my before doing any transaction.
