JOHOR BARU: The decision to shift the school session back to January in 2026 is not expected to affect the school curriculum.
Education director-general Azman Adnan stated that the current curriculum will proceed as usual, with the academic year consisting of 150 school days.
Consequently, he assured parents and teachers that concerns about potential disruptions to students and the teaching-learning process were unfounded.
"The Education Ministry guarantees that the school curriculum will remain unaffected and will continue as usual. The number of school days will remain at 150 per year, with only a minor adjustment to the duration of school breaks," he said during a press conference today.
Azman said this after inspecting the first day of schooling at SMK Sultan Ismail (SSI) here today (Mar 11).
Present was Johor Education and Information Committee chairman Aznan Tamin.
In May last year, the Education Ministry said it had started working on reverting the school session to January in 2026, compared with starting in March as implemented since 2022 following the Covid-19 pandemic.
A total of 1.44 million students commenced the 2024/2025 school session today across schools in Johor, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu, while other states are scheduled to commence their sessions tomorrow.
Nationwide, five million students were enrolled in the government schooling system from preschool to Form 5.
