BATU PAHAT: A family outing turned fatal when a 40-year-old man suffered a seizure while driving, causing him to lose control of his Toyota Alphard multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) at Km112.6 southbound of the Yong Peng-Pagoh Highway, here, yesterday.

The victim was killed when he veered off the road and crashed the MPV into the barriers, before it turned turtle.

His 31-year-old wife and their four children aged between seven months and 14, as well as his 55-year-old mother-in law, however, escaped with minor injuries.

Batu Pahat district police chief Assistant Commissioner Ismail Dollah said the victim and his family were heading towards Endau after a family holiday at Genting Highlands in Pahang, when he was believed to have suffered the seizure at 8.55pm.

"This led to him to losing control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn and killing him instantly.

"His family members were kept under observation at Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital before they were discharged today."

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
