SIBU: The Sarawak state-level International Women's Day 2024 celebration is scheduled to take place on May 4 at Universiti Teknologi Sarawak's (UTS) Chancellor Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud Hall in Sibu, the Sarawak Public Communications Unit reported.

This year's theme, 'Sarawak Women in Innovation and Technology,' aims to showcase the contributions of women in the fields of innovation and technology.

Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, highlighted the importance of this year's theme in demonstrating women's roles in these critical sectors.

"We want to highlight women's contributions to innovation and technology. Additionally, through exhibitions outside the UTS Hall, we aim to share with the attendees the ongoing developments in Sarawak through innovation and technology, including the services provided by agencies and departments via digital platforms," she said during a press conference on Feb 27.

The celebration is expected to be graced by the presence of the Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, and his wife, Puan Sri Juma'ani Tun Tuanku Bujang, adding prestige to the event.

The event will further be highlighted by the presentation of six awards, including the Datuk Patinggi Laila Taib Award, the Sarawak Premier's Award for Women's Leadership, the Sarawak Premier's Award for Women Entrepreneurship, the Sarawak Premier's Award for Women Social Activists, the Sarawak Premier's Award for Special Achievement, and the Sarawak Premier's Award for Outstanding Non-Governmental Organization (NGO).
