GEORGE TOWN: Junior Chamber International Pearl (JCI Pearl) is teaming up with Gleneagles Hospital Penang to host a colourful fun run on March 9 to commemorate International Women's Day, Buletin Mutiara reported.

The 3-km event, dubbed '2024 Run With Flying Colours – Pass It On,' is set to light up the Automall, Karpal Singh Drive, with a flurry of activity and enthusiasm.

State Social Development, Welfare, and Non-Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Lim Siew Kim announced that approximately 1,000 participants are expected to take part in this year's run.

She said the event received support from the Penang Women's Development Corporation (PWDC), Penang Youth Development Corporation, Penang Amateur Athletic Association, and Penang State Sports Council.

"We continue to champion programmes that align with the Penang2030 vision of cultivating a Family Focused, Green, Smart State that Inspires the Nation," Lim said during a press conference on Feb 22.

She also revealed the state government's contribution of RM5,000 to the event.

The theme for this year's celebration, 'Inspire Inclusion,' aims to galvanise support for gender equality by embracing diversity and amplifying women's voices.

The run is designed to be an inclusive event, encouraging men and women from all walks of life to participate, spread positivity, and draw inspiration from one another.

PWDC CEO Datuk Ong Bee Leng, CEO of PWDC, lauded JCI Pearl for their consistent efforts in organising the run over the years and mentioned that various activities are also to be held by other strategic partners throughout March.

Meanwhile, Gleneagles Hospital Penang's assistant marketing manager Hazel Tan said participants could look forward to health screenings, breast self-examination education, and a forum addressing women's health among other topics.

This marks the first collaboration between Gleneagles and JCI Pearl for the event.

Registration for the run can be done here, with a fee of RM45 per participant, offering a Run With Flying Colour T-shirt, a medal, complimentary insurance, and a goodie bag.

Students can register for free under specific terms and conditions, also receiving a T-shirt commemorating the event.
