KUANTAN: Pahang Regent Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah will embark on a four-day boat trip along Sungai Pahang, visiting six districts next week.

State Communications and Multimedia, Youth, Sports and Non-governmental Organisations Committee chairman Fadzli Mohamad Kamal said the "Mahkota Expedition: Mudik Sungai Pahang" event, covering a distance of 400km, will involve some 150 participants and18 boats.

He said the convoy was scheduled to depart upstream from Pekan Riverfront in Pekan on March 3, passing through Maran, Bera, Temerloh, Jerantut before ending at Kampung Tanjung Gahai, Lipis, on March 6.

"Tengku Hassanal will travel in the long Kajang boat (with a roof structure), and several stopovers' are scheduled during the trip at traditional villages along the river. He will take the opportunity to meet and greet the people.

"During the stopovers, various activities have been planned, including silat performances, handing aid to the needy, cooking traditional dishes, visiting Orang Asli settlements, participating in traditional games and "sukan rakyat" (people sports)," he said at a press conference at Wisma Sri Pahang today.

Meanwhile, Fadzli said the public was invited to join Tengku Hassanal during the convoy's overnight camping trip at Rumah Warisan Chenor, Maran and Kampung Gintong, Jerantut.

"The public can camp at the site with Tengku Hassanal. I believe due to the school holidays, many will take the opportunity to take part in the activity in Maran and Jerantut,

"Those interested to set up camps at the site will have to first register with the Pahang Sports Council or district police station. The convoy members will spend the night at the sites before resuming their journey on their respective boats the following day," he said.

He said various agencies would take part in the trip, including police, firemen, army, health department, the Civil Defence Force and members of the media.
