KUALA LUMPUR: The Coalition of Free and Fair Elections' (Bersih) decision to hold a rally and march to Parliament to demand for the Madani government execute the promised reforms shows that there is something wrong with the government, said Pas information chief, Ahmad Fadhli Shaari.
Ahmad Fadhli who is also the Pasir Mas member of parliament (MP) said the public knew that Bersih was forced to organise a rally to voice its protests despite previously having a good relationship with Pakatan Harapan (PH).
"We from Perikatan Nasional (PN) and also the opposition always cooperate with any groups with the same agenda as Bersih. I note that this demand from Bersih should be implemented by the government.
"So, when Bersih has to do something like this (gather and march to Parliament) to inform the government about this demand, there is certainly something wrong with the implementation of reforms by the government," he told the media, here, today.
Also present was Bersih chairman Muhammad Faisal Abdul Aziz and his deputy, Wong Yan Ke.
Ahmad Fadhli was one of the six MPs who received a memorandum submitted by Bersih.
The group marched to Parliament to demand reforms from the Madani government and presented three demands.
Commenting further, Ahmad Fadhli said he was confident that Bersih would not stop here, and that there would be further movements to guarantee that the government actually implemented the promised reforms.
"We already know that this government is just 'empty talk'. They only claimed to carry out reforms, but when they cooperated with 'kleptocrats', whom they claimed to be corrupt, now, they have 'sacrificed' all those values," he said.
Regarding the three demands presented by Bersih, he said his party would examine all the demands first before handing them over to the PN leadership for consideration.
Bersih in its memorandum demanded that the method of appointing the Chairman of the Election Commission (SPR) be improved by involving the Parliamentary Committee.
This is so that all parties could debate it democratically and inclusively.
Bersih also demanded that there would be no more discharge not amounting to acquittal (DNAA) by the court against any politician who is being tried for corruption and abuse of power.
Bersih's third demand is to reject the double standard laws in high-profile trial cases.
Apart from Ahmad Fadhli, the memorandum was handed over to four PH MPs namely Selayang MP William Leong Jee Keen; Pasir Gudang MP, Hassan Abdul Karim; Sungai Petani MP, Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari, Ledang MP, Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh. Muar MP, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman Al-Sagoff also received it.
