KUALA LUMPUR: A resident cat at a petrol station who caught the attention of a man refuelling his car has now been chosen as the ambassador of the 'Setel' fuel payment app by Petronas Dagangan Bhd.
Muhamad Badri Akif Mohd Azman, 28, said he noticed the cat while refuelling at a Petronas station in Kota Sarang Semut, Yan, Kedah, one evening on Feb 13.
"That evening, I was on my way back home to Penang from my grandmother's house in Kampung Alor Serdang. When I stopped to refuel, I saw the cat sleeping on the pump platform. I took a picture of it just for fun because whenever I see any cats, I like to take pictures," he said when contacted by Harian Metro.
Badri then shared the pictures on his X (formerly Twitter) page. Little was he expecting it to go viral.
The cat, a tri-coloured female named Cetel, achieved fame overnight.
"I uploaded the picture of the sleeping cat to my X account with the tag 'Setel' just for fun. I was never expecting it to garner the attention of netizens and the Setel team.

"I'm not sure who owns the cat, but it's always there because last September, I also took a picture of this cat and saved it in my phone's gallery," he said.
He said that he was unaware of Setel's plans for the cat, but he hoped that the welfare of the animal would be taken care of.
Meanwhile, through Setel's sharing on X, they fulfilled their promise by announcing that the cat had been named Cetel and chosen as the ambassador of the Setel app based on netizens' votes.
Setel said they were arranging for Cetel's acquisition as their ambassador, including asking netizens for the best food recommendations for the animal.
"A collar for Cetel is on the way, everyone. The (social media page) admin will meet him soon to drop off all the goods and necessities. But it will take a little time because Cetel is far from the admin," they said.
