PETALING JAYA: Petaling Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid has been described as an outstanding chief by his former superior, Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan.

Hussein said Fakhrudin worked hard and was committed to carrying out his duties.

"If there were report cards, he (Fakhrudin) would receive all As. We can see from his committed work, such as during the last state elections.

"Another example we can see is when he handled the case of the missing (autistic child) Zayn Rayyan. From Day One until now, he has always been on the ground and kept me updated.

"All district chiefs can look up to him as a role model when he succeeded in making Petaling Jaya one of the three district police headquarters (IPD) that recorded a decrease in crime index last year. We hope he will continue to achieve success in his new position."

He said this while speaking at the handing over-of-duties ceremony at Petaling Jaya IPD here today.

Hussein witnessed the appointment of deputy director of personnel administration, service branch/personnel branch of the Department of Management Bukit Aman, Assistant Commissioner Shahrulnizam Jaafar@Ismail, as the new Petaling Jaya police chief effective today.

Fakhrudin, who took over Shahrulnizam's former post at Bukit Aman, appeared unable to hold back his emotions when recalling memories of nearly three years serving in the district.

"There are many bitter and sweet memories during my two years and 10 months leading this district police.

"The close cooperation between the Selangor police chief, department heads, officers, members and also other district police chiefs.

"Three events that I find hard to forget during my service here are during the Movement Control Order (MCO), the 15th General Election (GE15), and the state elections last year," he said.

When approached by the media, Shahrulnizam expressed his determination to respond to the call of Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain to ensure that the management of police officers and personnel are always at their best.

"I want to ensure the safety of the community through cooperation with the people in line with the motto 'police and the community are inseparable'.

"My challenge is to maintain the level of excellence at Petaling Jaya IPD in line with the current standard," he said.
