SEREMBAN: Four women and two men are feared lost while hiking up Gunung Angsi in Kuala Pilah yesterday (Feb 20).

Seri Menanti Fire and Rescue station operations commander, Norhirwan Zainal, said they received a distress call at around 7.31pm regarding a group of hikers believed to be lost up on the mountain.

"Initial information indicates that all the victims have not returned home, prompting the caller to seek assistance from the fire and rescue department to help locate them.

"Acting on the information received, six firemen from the Seri Menanti Fire Station rushed to the scene aboard an FRT (Fire Rescue Tender) upon receiving the distress call to launch a Search And Rescue (SAR) operation," he said in a statement here today (Feb 21).

He said that upon arriving and doing an inspection at the scene, two vehicles were found at the foot of Gunung Angsi believed to belong to the victims.

Meanwhile, when contacted, Negri Sembilan Fire and Rescue Department Zone 3 head, Fire Superintendent Yusry Abdullah Sani, said that all the victims who are between 28 and 42-years-old were found to have registered in advance at the forest office lodge.

According to him, all the climbers who were believed to be from Selangor, have not checked out yet and the rescue team, assisted by police, searched for victims right up to the top, but there were no trace of the victims.

"The search will continue tonight at three locations where the victims are expected to descend, namely in Ulu Bendul, Kampung Jkin in Kuala Pilah and in Taman Tuanku Ja'afar (TTJ) in Seremban.
