KUALA LUMPUR: The Digital Ministry will look into claims that the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN) database was breached and 27TB of public data compromised by a group of hackers known as ROOTK1T.

Its minister Gobind Singh Deo said his ministry was in the midst of verifying whether the claim made by the group was true or otherwise.

"We will respond once we have some details," he said referring to the cyber attack which allegedly occurred last night.

In a Telegram group, the group claimed that it had hacked the Padu website and stolen 27TB of Malaysians data in return for the Malaysian government to acknowledge its cyber attack on Malaysia.

Initially, the breach was thought to be on the newly-launched Central Database Hub (Padu) but the matter was clarified later by the Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli via a tweet on X.

Rafizi clarified that the supposed claim referred to by the hacker was LPPKN and not Padu.

Efforts to seek clarification from LPPKN as of 8pm have been futile.
