KOTA KINABALU: Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) has conducted an operation at the Inanam night market following public complaints of fishmongers dyeing their fish to make them look fresh.

DBKK director-general Junainah Abbie said in the operation, Health Ministry officers had collected fish samples to be analysed in a laboratory.

The test report, which is expected to be out soon, will be sent to the Kota Kinabalu Area Health Department (JKPB) for further action, she said in a statement.

"The DBKK hawker management operation division, together with the Health Ministry and JKPB, conducted the operation from 7pm until 9.30pm on Monday and they found a fishmonger suspected of putting dye on the fish he was selling," she said.

She said stern action would be taken against the seller if the test results came back positive.

The operation involved four personnel from the DBKK Hawkers Licensing Division led by Hassim Musa and six from JKPB headed by Adrian Ijom. Seven personnel from the ministry were led by Bibi Rozita.

Bibi Rozita said the joint operation would be expanded to make sure fishmongers adhered to regulations and did not use prohibited substances.
