KUCHING: There are still 413 flood victims from 107 families being housed at temporary evacuation shelters (PPS) in Batu Kawa and Matang, as of this morning.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee said 186 victims from 50 families were currently staying at the Taman Malihah multipurpose hall PPS in Matang.

It said in a statement that the Stapok Community Hall PPS, meanwhile, was housing 167 victims from 44 families, while another 60 from 13 families being given shelter at the R. Piang Hall PPS in Kampung Sinar Budi Baru in Batu Kawa.

The three PPS were opened on Friday following floods in Kuching, Bau, Serian and Samarahan brought on by continuous heavy rain.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Meteorological Department has predicted storms, heavy rain and strong winds in several areas in Sarawak today.

The areas involved were Samarahan (Simunjan), Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu and Mukah (Tanjung Manis and Daro).
