KUALA LUMPUR: Twenty control posts operated by the General Operation Force (GOF) throughout Selangor have been repaired and upgraded, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said.

The control posts in Selangor, said Saifuddin, are among the 151 control posts around the country to be upgraded and repaired with a total cost of RM45 million.

He added that the GOF control posts in Selangor that were repaired and upgraded are located along the 337km coastal line in the state facing the South China Sea.

"Therefore, the role of the control posts (in Selangor) is important as a tactical base to defend the country from any forms of threats such as infiltration by illegal immigrants, smuggling of contrabands and drugs into the country," he told reporters after visiting the GOF Central Brigade headquarters in Cheras near here today.

Present was Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.

Upgrading and repairing all facilities and assets as well as quarters of the police and GOF, he said, is the focus of his ministry this year.

He said the allocation to fund the repair and upgrading works was approved by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last year.

"It is our duty to ensure that the works have been carried out and completed according to schedule after the allocation has been approved.

"And the prime minister is very particular on this.

"Having said that, all the works have been carried out according to schedule. And the ministry is satisfied with the work of the contractor appointed by the GOF," he said.

Saifuddin last year announced that 151 control posts operated by the GOF along the country's borders would be undergoing upgrading and repair works.

He had said that some of these control posts were in a state of disrepair with rotten floorboards.
