KUALA LUMPUR: Works Ministry staff are urged to monitor road issues and not sweep them under the carpet.

Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi today said the ministry must promptly take action if cases were lodged and not just act when certain cases went viral.

"The public often publicises road issues. While I understand that many complaints are addressed promptly, some complaints take too long to be handled.

"This affects people's trust in us. So I urge (all staff) to not wait until complaints are made.

"Don't sweep matters under the carpet, and don't wait to take action only when issues go viral," he said at the ministry's monthly assembly.

Present were Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan and secretary-general Datuk Seri Hasnol Zamzam Ahmad.

Nanta said the ministry's staff and agencies must ensure that concessionaires did their best to monitor roads and that they must have a sense of urgency when addressing issues raised by the public.

"This is often highlighted by the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) to cabinet members, especially when it comes to matters related to people's welfare.

"We are all involved in ensuring the success of plans, directions, initiatives and key performance indicators.

"No one here is exempted or given special treatment, including myself as the minister, the deputy minister, secretary-general, deputy-secretary general, top management and other ministerial staff."
