JOHOR BARU: The Johor government will maintain the ban on the sale of vape products as decreed by His Majesty the sultan of Johor on Jan 1, 2016.

State Health and Unity Committee chairman Ling Tian Soon said since the 2016 decree, municipal councils in the state have neither issued nor approved business licences for vape-related products, including devices and liquids.

The stance taken by the state government following the sultan's decree led to circulars being sent to all local authorities. The ban on vaping products in Johor has been enforced since that time.

Ling said despite nicotine gels and liquids being removed from controlled substances last year, the sale of any form of vape-like products is banned in the state.

On Sunday (Feb 4), the Health Ministry expressed concern on a new vape-like product designed to appeal minors, which were marketed as 'energy-sticks'.

"There were no reports of energy-stick-like products being sold in Johor yet… and we urge those who happen to see it being sold, to immediately lodge reports for actions to be taken."

He said methods should be explored to ensure energy-stick products sold online do not make its way into the state.
