IPOH: The Women, Children and Cardiology Complex (KWKK) of Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) here will soon receive 250 new beds.

The Health Ministry has approved an allocation of RM1.2 million for the purchase.

Its minister, Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, said the move will allow the hospital to accommodate more patients compared with present 404 beds.

"During this visit, I also approved an allocation of RM1.2 million for the procurement of beds. Although this KWKK complex already has 404 beds, it's still not enough.

"The acquisition of another 250 beds through this allocation will enable us to operate fully, including beds for (patients) to be taken to the ward as well as replacing beds that are worn out."

Dr Dzulkefly said this at a press conference after attending the opening of KWKK by the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah here, today.

Dr Dzulkefly said Sultan Nazrin also ordered the ministry to observe the preliminary work to upgrade and expand the Kuala Kangsar Hospital as announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in the 2023 Budget.

"His Majesty (Sultan Nazrin) told the people, especially me as a minister, and the KSU (ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Zaini Ujang), to observe the construction of the hospital in Kuala Kangsar.

"I will follow up on that because we have started tendering. The secretary-general will follow up on the matter more carefully and I will monitor it, too," he said.

In February last year, Anwar announced that the government would upgrade 26 hospitals, including the expansion of Kuala Kangsar Hospital, Jelebu Hospital and the 100-year-old Pontian Hospital.
