KUALA LUMPUR: The landslide area that occurred behind a housing unit in Taman Bukit Pantai, here yesterday has been cordoned off to make way for a police investigation.

The Pantai Fire and Rescue station, when contacted today, said operations on its end were completed and the case had been handed over to the police.

"At first, we contacted the Kuala Lumpur City Hall, but they stated that the area was not under their supervision.

"Therefore, we handed the case over to the police after the firefighters completed their operation yesterday, and after discussing with the homeowner and contractor.

"The police will keep in touch with the Public Works Department's slope division for further investigations."

The Pantai Police Station confirmed the matter.

The police spokesman said they were conducting a safety control operation.

"It is still uncertain when the tenants can return home as long as the investigation has not been completed.

"We will be in touch with relevant agencies to look into this case. The investigation is still ongoing."

Checks made by the 'New Straits Times' have shown that the house has been closed off after the police established a secure perimeter.

Yesterday, the landslide occurred due to a water drainage leak from an upper house unit's swimming pool.

Pantai Fire and Rescue station senior operations commander Mustafa Kamal Mohd Arih said no victims were trapped in the incident.

Seventeen Fire and Rescue Department officers, two fire rescue tenders, and one Toyota Hilux from the Pantai and Seputeh fire stations were involved.
