MARANG: Although they have never met in real life, Nur Syafiqah Abd Rashid was confident enough to be engaged with her chosen man, Mohd Hafiz Jamaludin.

The 26-year-old lass admitted to only communicating with Mohd Hafiz through phone calls and the occasional video calls until now.

Their story gained attention after Nur Syafiqah, who is the seventh out of nine siblings, shared a video of her engagement ceremony on social media recently.

According to her, their engagement was sealed on December 23 at her family home in Kampung Jerung Surau, Wakaf Tapai, here, and was only attended by family members.

She said that at the time, Mohd Hafiz, 24, who hails from Negri Sembilan and works as a restaurant chef in Australia, only witnessed the ceremony through a video call.

She got to know Mohd Hafiz after her fiancé joined a live stream he conducted on a social media platform in May 2022.

"That's where we got to know each other, initially just friends, but over time, we became compatible and developed a love relationship.

But we never met throughout our acquaintance, and it's been a long-distance relationship for over a year now.

Every day my fiancé will call me, even though sometimes there is nothing to talk about, and that's how we know each other's activities.

I also had a video call with my fiancé and his mother's blessing, and she accepted me as her future daughter-in-law," she said when contacted by Harian Metro.

Due to the long-distance nature of their relationship, Nur Syafiqah admitted that it was not easy to convince and obtain her family's approval.

"My family seems reluctant to continue the relationship because they are worried I will become a victim of a 'love scam.'

But my brother helped check the background of the fiancé, and the family was convinced after finding out his clean 'record'.

I accept my fiancé because of his character and sincerity in proposing to me," she said.

At this point, Nur Syafiqah hopes for nothing more than to see her becoming a queen for a day next May.

Mohd Hafiz plans to return to Malaysia in April, and they are expected to meet for the first time before the solemnization ceremony.

"I always pray that all will go well, and Alhamdulillah, last month's engagement ceremony went smoothly. Our plans to buy a house have been facilitated, and now we are both working to save money for the wedding.

"Thanks also to netizens who prayed for the best after I shared the engagement video. I feel touched because most comments are positive, and some even shared stories of going through similar experiences," she said.
