JOHOR BARU: The number of flood victims in Johor continues to rise with 8,221 people from 2,275 families evacuated to 53 temporary flood relief centres (PPS) as of this morning.

Johor state secretary, Tan Sri Dr Azmi Rohani, said Kota Tinggi continues to register an increase in flood evacuees after 4,730 people from 1,298 families were evacuated to 26 PPS in the district as of 8am today.

"Johor Baru also recorded an increase in flood victims, now totaling 1,976 people from 535 families at 12 operating PPS," he said in a statement.

Azmi, who is also the State Disaster Management Committee chairman, said Kluang registered a slight increase in flood evacuees from 1,306 people last night to 1,308 people this morning.

All of them are seeking shelter at nine PPS in the district.

"Segamat also experienced a slight increase in the number of flood evacuees from 75 people from 21 families to 99 people from 28 families in four PPS.

Similar to the situation in Johor, the number of flood evacuees in Pahang also registered an increase.

According to the Pahang Disaster Management Committee Secretariat, there are a total of 1,525 people from 435 families seeking shelter in 23 PPS activated in Rompin, Pekan, and Maran.

Pekan recorded the highest number of victims, with 797 people from 216 families, followed by Rompin with 716 people from 215 families, while Maran recorded 12 people from four families.
