KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Razak wants Netflix's Man On The Run documentary film to be removed as it contained inaccuracies and slander against him.

A post on the Facebook page of Najib Razak read that Najib's lead counsel Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, after watching the film, told the court that it presented wrong facts and slander against his client.

The post also said that the film had also played up propaganda that had been repeated before the 14th General Election.

"The film had, among others, linked Najib to the murders of deputy public prosecutor Datuk Anthony Kevin Morais and Mongolian model Altantuya Shaariibuu.

"This is although the entire country already knows that Najib was not involved.

"How can these obvious slanders be repeated in the film?

"This is why Tan Sri Shafee has told the judge about the film which is slanderous and prejudiced to his client.

"As Najib's defence counsel, Tan Sri Shafee deeply understands the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) case," it read.

Yesterday, Shafee said the defence team wants the government to remove the one hour and 38 minute film, which tells the story of the 1MDB financial scandal.

It premiered on Netflix on Friday and as of 12.30pm today, holds the second spot in the top 10 movies in Malaysia on the streaming platform.

Shafee had said the show, which interviewed several high ranking individuals such as former attorney-general Tan Sri Tommy Thomas and current prime minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, as extremely sub judice and contemptuous.

Shafee added Najib had instructed him to file a contempt proceeding against Thomas and file a legal action against Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown for her statements in the documentary.

Netflix, when contacted yesterday, declined to comment.
