MELAKA: Melaka police are still investigating the identity of the body of a woman who was found in a roadside drain in Kampung Tanjung Rimau Luar, Pulau Sebang, Alor Gajah, at the end of last month.

State police chief Datuk Wira Zainol Samah said so far the police have carried out comparative tests of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) samples related to police reports on missing persons cases in Batu Pahat, Johor and Gemenceh, Negri Sembilan.

The case in Batu Pahat involved a single mother, Mira Sharmila Samsusah or better known as Bella, who was reported missing in the district since Dec 16 last year.

"Comparison of DNA samples has been carried out through her (Bella's) family members, but it does not match her as well as in the case of Gemencheh.

"The DNA specimen was also sent to Division D13 (Data Bank/DNA), Criminal Investigation Department, Bukit Aman to be checked with other reported cases," he said in a statement today.

Further investigations are ongoing to trace the identity of the deceased and members of the public with information are requested to come forward to any nearby police station or call 06-5562222.

Media reported that the body of a woman was discovered in a rubbish bin along the Alor Gajah-Tampin trunk road, near Kampung Rimau, Pulau Sebang on New Year's eve.

Initial investigations indicated that the victim was murdered, with her head, arms, and legs cut off before her dismembered body parts were stuffed into a bin and dumped in a drain by the side of the road.
