JOHOR BAHRU: The number of flood victims in Johor has risen to 1,153 individuals from 301 families as of 8pm tonight.

This reflects an increase from the earlier count of 1,146 individuals from 299 families at 6 pm, with the support of 11 temporary relief centers (PPS) continuing across the four affected districts.

Johor State Flood Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) chairman Tan Sri Dr Azmi Rohani, highlighted that Kota Tinggi maintains its unfortunate status as the district most severely impacted, hosting the highest number of flood victims.

In Kota Tinggi alone, the count stands at 761 individuals from 191 families, seeking refuge in seven PPS within the district.

"Flood victims in Johor Bahru also persist, with 43 residents from 12 families at a PPS, following the closure of two centers, namely Dewan Muafakat Kampung Cahaya and Dewan Kampung Sungai Tiram.

"Mersing remains a concern, with 265 affected victims from 70 families seeking shelter in the National School (SK) Air Papan and SK Tenglu PPS.

"However, the situation in Kluang has escalated, now with 84 victims from 28 families seeking shelter in the MPK Kahang Hall," he said in a statement.

MetMalaysia has maintained its warning of continuous heavy rain at severe levels in several areas across Johor until Sunday.
