JOHOR BARU: The 'Semarak Subuh' programme is set to commence this Friday in 838 mosques and 1,942 surau across Johor.

The 'Semarak Subuh' is a state-wide initiative, where leaders from their respective state assemblies are to perform the Fajr congregational prayer with the members of the public every Friday.

State Islamic Affairs Committee chairman Mohd Fared Mohd Khalid, said the 'Semarak Subuh' initiative in the 56 state assembly areas involved state assemblymen from their respective constituencies.

Non-Muslim assemblymen or their representatives are required to be present at their respective localities and zones, including administration at district and sub-district levels.

Mohd Fared said although the non-Muslim leaders were not required to join in the prayers, their attendance is to meet the people in their constituencies, as the state government had allocated RM560,000 for the programme.

Every mosque and surau across the state are encouraged to ensure the 'Semarak Subuh' programme is held every Friday, throughout the year.

Mohd Fared welcomed all Johoreans, including those of other faiths and beliefs to participate in programme in their respective areas.

He said it's an opportunity for the people to meet their representatives to share their concerns and voice out any issues too.

In November last year, Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, announced the 'Semarak Subuh' programme initiative with an allocation of RM560,000.
