MERSING: A 23-year-old man was rescued after he fell off his motorcycle and was swept away by floodwaters at KM34 of Jalan Jemaluang - Kota Tinggi, here, today.

In the 7.19am incident, the man was riding his motorbike through the flooded roads when a strong surge led him to tumble from his machine and was dragged for about 7m in the 1.5-metre-deep floods.

Stranded in the pool of gushing water, he held on to a tree, before the Fire and Rescue Department personnel employed rescue ropes, and pulled him to safety.

The department's Senior Fire Officer Arwan Abdullah said the victim escaped without injuries but was slightly shaken by the incident.

He said the victim was conscious and coherent during the rescue effort, which contributed to the rescue taking approximately an hour.
