PUTRAJAYA: The concert featuring British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran on Feb 24 will proceed as scheduled at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium.

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said he had already consulted with the Committee for the Application for Filming and Performance by Foreign Artistes.

"I appreciate the views of the Penang mufti on this matter, but among the 16 agencies involved in discussions to decide on applications for any foreign artiste performances through the committee are the Malaysian Islamic Development Department and Home Ministry.

"Thorough screening is conducted by all these agencies, so I request that the existing process be followed," he told reporters.

Fahmi was responding to Penang Mufti Datuk Seri Dr Wan Salim Wan Mohd Noor's views on the concert, where he had called for Muslims to boycott the show as Sheeran is known to be a staunch supporter of the LGBT community.

The ministry, said Fahmi, will look into the matter if any necessary action needs to be taken.

"For now, yes, (the concert can proceed)," he said.
