KUALA LUMPUR: The government will continuously support the country's judiciary to operate independently, without any interference from the executive in court cases.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said such measures will see all cases in court impartially heard as the independence and integrity of the court must be protected at all times.

This, he said, will also contribute to boosting the confidence of investors globally towards Malaysia's judicial independence.

"I appreciate the paramount importance of our country's justice administration and the rule of law for a fair and orderly society which will ensure laws are applied justly and not arbitrarily through an adequate system of appeals in our courts.

"(Hence), the judiciary can be assured of the government's continuous support for an independent judiciary, where all cases in courts will be heard impartially without any form of interference from the executive.

"The independence and integrity of the courts must be protected by all stakeholders at all costs and at all times for our country to boost the confidence of investors globally," he said in his speech at the book launch for the fourth edition of Civil and Criminal Appeals in Malaysia.

The book, written by Tan Kee Heng, a Sabah and Sarawak High Court advocate, provides a comprehensive and detailed exposition of the law governing the conduct of appeals in civil and criminal matters in the country.

Present during the book launch were Chief Justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat and Court of Appeal President Tan Sri Abang Iskandar Abang Hashim.

Fadhillah congratulated Tan on the book and said he hoped that the author's work would continue to be a guide to those who seek to navigate the complexities of civil and criminal appeals in Malaysia.

"I believe the legal fraternity and judiciary will appreciate his tireless efforts and dedication in this publication which will enrich our understanding of appellate practice and inspire a new generation of legal minds to approach their profession with diligence and integrity for the benefit of the society as a whole."
