KUALA LUMPUR: Recently it was revealed that Malaysia's capital of Kuala Lumpur came in at a respectable 18th place in a global survey for the best cities for this year.
According to Britons Ranking, Kuala Lumpur was among the top cities that stood out in a list of 37 cities from across the globe.
Kuala Lumpur even managed to finish ahead of more popular cities such as Abu Dhabi (21st), Dubai (31st) and even the most populous city in the US state of Nevada, Las Vegas (37th).
The survey saw more than 1,800 respondents rating their experiences of world travel outside of Europe over the past three years.
Locations were marked on seven separate criterias, including the quality of food and drink, cultural sights and tourist attractions, ease of getting around and value for money.
A city score was then calculated based on a combination of overall satisfaction and likeliness to recommend the destination.
Kuala Lumpur managed an overall city score of 75 per cent, scoring four stars for 'Food and drink', 'Accommodation', 'Shopping' and 'Value for money' criterias (Star ratings from one to five).
For the criteria of 'Cultural sights and tourists attractions', Kuala Lumpur attained three stars and scored two stars for 'Ease of getting around' and 'lack of crowds' criterias.
This does not come as a surprise, as in a previous news report published by the New Straits Times on Nov 22 last year, Kuala Lumpur was ranked eighth globally and third in Asia for being the best city to live in by a recent global survey.
According to the InterNations' annual Expat City Ranking, Kuala Lumpur stood out among 49 cities worldwide that were covered in the report.
For this survey, globally Kuala Lumpur came in eighth place, trailing behind four cities in Spain, Mexico City, and two cities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Kuala Lumpur holds second spot in Asia, trailing behind the leading cities of the UAE, namely Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah.
The rankings were determined by assessing the experiences of expatriates last year, with InterNations conducting a survey involving over 12,000 expats globally.
Furthermore, Malaysia was ranked as the fourth-best country in the world for expats to live, behind Mexico, Spain, and Panama.
The survey also highlighted Malaysia's significant improvement in quality of life rankings, advancing from 44th out of 52 destinations in 2022 to 29th out of 53 this year.
