GEORGE TOWN: The National Unity Ministry supports the Arulmigu Balathandayuthapaani Hilltop Temple's request for a cable car.

Deputy National Unity Minister K. Saraswathy said she understood the need for the cable car, especially for the elderly devotees when performing their religious obligations, especially during Thaipusam.

"The hilltop temple had asked for a cable car and I understand the value for it. We should have a cable car going up the hilltop temple.

"We can demand from the government for that and I will endeavour to get that fulfilled," she said at the Thaipusam celebrations at the grounds of the hilltop temple here this afternoon.

Since 2012, the temple had raised the proposal.Saraswathy said it was her late father's wish for her to carry the Paal Kudam (milk offering) as long as she live.

She said she used to carry the Paal Kudam from the temple in Lebuh Queen to the hilltop temple.

"With age catching up, I could not walk for that long distance.

"My mother used to accompany me up through hilltop temple but not anymore, now that she is 84.

"As such, for aged devotees like her, we need the cable car and I am in full support of it," she added, nothing that this is her 30th year carrying the Paal Kudam.
