PASIR MAS: Yayasan Sultan Kelantan has donated RM1 million to more than 39,000 people who were affected by the three episodes of floods in 2023 and this year.

Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud, who announced this today, said the donation would be distributed to flood victims in the districts of Pasir Mas, Kuala Krai, Tanah Merah and Pasir Mas, which is the most affected with 25,000 victims.

"The three episodes of floods resulted in 181 relief centres in Kelantan being opened for some 39,000 flood victims to be evacuated.

"Fifty eight of the 181 flood relief centres operating during the three episodes were set up in Pasir Mas, Kuala Krai (49) and Tanah Merah (30).

"To show his concern to the people, Sultan Muhammad V decided to donate RM1 milllion from the foundation to help his subjects.

"The ruler hopes the assistance will ease the burden suffered by flood victims," said Nassuruddin, who is Meranti assemblyman in a speech before handing over the donation to 500 flood victims here today.

Accompanying him were the foundation's chairman Datuk Nazran Muhammad and

Kelantan Disaster Management director Nik Mohamed Noor Nik Ishak.

Meanwhile, flood victim Normi Ismail thanked the ruler for the donation saying that she would use the money to repair her home that was damaged by the floods last month.

The 53-year-old mother of five said she incurred losses amounting to RM10,000 in the flood.

Labourer Ahmad Faizal Zakaria, 51, said he would use the money for daily expenses for his wife and three children.
