BUKIT MERTAJAM: Seberang Prai City Council has started an initiative to purchase used cooking oil and provide residents with an environmentally friendly way to dispose of waste while earning some extra cash.

The council, in a Facebook post on Jan 23, announced that the buyback program is set to take place on Monday, Jan 29, from 10am to 1pm at the Recycling Station, Menara Bandaraya. Arus Oil will be purchasing the used cooking oil at RM2.50 per kilogramme.

In addition to the buyback, the post also highlighted that new registrants to the programme will receive a storage bottle for their used cooking oil, encouraging the proper disposal and recycling of this common household waste.

If successful, the council added that it plans to organise this buyback programme on a monthly basis as part of the effort to promote sustainability in Seberang Prai.
