CHUKAI: Police have detained a woman following a police report lodged by her 16-year-old daughter, claiming that the latter was raped.

Kemaman district police chief, Superintendent Hanyan Ramlan, said the woman, 43, was detained around 7pm yesterday.

He said the suspect was brought to the Kemaman magistrate's court today for remand proceedings.

The woman was remanded for a week.

"The suspect has been detained under Section 376 of the Penal Code and Section 14(a) of the Sexual Crimes Against Children Act (AKKSTKK) 2017.

"Police will also investigate any possible involvement by the victim's mother in the crime, as well as possible neglect under Section 3 of the AKKSTKK," he said.

Hanyan said the teenager, accompanied by her 19-year-old sister, had lodged a report early yesterday morning after claiming that she was raped by an 18-year-old suspect.

"She claimed that she was raped several weeks ago. Police subsequently detained the suspect.

"In the course of the investigation, the victim also claimed that she was previously raped by her stepfather," he said.

Police then arrested the stepfather, aged 32.

"Both husband and wife have been remanded for a week. The victim has been brought to the Kemaman Hospital for further checks," he said.
