KOTA MARUDU: The Sabah Public Works Department has given its assurance that the access road used by villagers here will be repaired.

Sabah Public Works minister Datuk Shahelmey Yahya was responding to the viral story of two Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Magandai students and their teachers who were stranded overnight because their vehicle had broken down due to bad road conditions.

One of the teachers said the road condition had caused the breakdown of her vehicle, forcing the group to seek shelter in a garden hut.

Shahelmey said the 40km road starts from the intersection leading to Kampung Tondig up to SK Magandai in Kota Marudu.

"The contractor has informed us that their equipment is on the construction site and has been dispatched to the area, where frequent damages occur, for maintenance purposes.

"However, continuous rainfall has softened the soil structure, posing difficulties for construction and maintenance work," he said in a statement.

Shahelmey, who is also the deputy Chief Minister, added the contractor has assured that their machinery remains on-site to assist the residents in the area.
