KUANTAN: Only companies which successfully build new telecommunications towers under National Digital Network (Jendela) phase one across Pahang should be given the nod for phase two of the programme.

State Communications and Multimedia Committee chairman Fadzli Mohamad Kamal urged the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to pick companies with good performance to be part of phase two which will begin soon.

"Companies that displayed strong commitment and good work rate to build the telecommunications towers in the ongoing phase one of the programme must be given priority to be part of upcoming Jendela phase two. The MCMC has to give focus to the matter.

"The move to ensure only companies that excel in Jendela phase one is listed will ensure that the telecommunication access empowerment initiative across Pahang will be executed smoothly," he wrote on Facebook.

Meanwhile, Fadzli said a company which was appointed by MCMC to build 29 telecommunications towers under Jendela phase one for rural areas and Orang Asli settlements in Lipis had successfully completed the construction works within the given time.

He said the company has emerged as the first firm to complete all the required tower construction works in Pahang.

Jendela phase one between 2020-2022 was aimed at providing high quality and affordable digital connectivity by improving broadband coverage, and ensuring internet access to all corners of the country.

Phase two which began last year until 2025 will consist of expanding internet coverage at the most challenging areas including those inland and remote.
