KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Finance Ministry extended a special voluntary disclosure programme until March 31.

The ministry's permanent secretary cum state sales tax director Datuk Mohd Sofian Alfian Nair said the programme is to encourage companies involved in exporting fishery commodities; and scrap metals and waste out of the state to pay their sales taxes to the state government.

"The period of taxes eligible for this programme are according to the date of the state sales tax (SST) enforced on these products, namely; May 1,2021 to Aug 14, 2023 for fishery commodities exported out of Sabah and Feb 1, 2022 to Aug 14, 2023 for scrap metals and waste exported out of Sabah."

Mohd Sofian said that the taxpayers will not be penalised if they settle their taxes within the duration of the special programme.

The ministry initially implemented the special programme starting Aug 15 until Dec 31, 2023.

The programme was then extended due to an overwhelming response from taxpayers.

"The conditions and rules of this programme remain the same and the company can refer to the Special Programme Guidelines for Voluntary Declaration of SST on the official portal of the State Finance Ministry at https://mof.sabah.gov.my/ as a reference taxpayer."

He added that further enquiries can be made at the state sales tax division at 088-368038/088-368068/088-36805 or emailed to [email protected] or [email protected].
