KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi hopes that Malaysians will continue to stand united in achieving even more meaningful successes in the new year.

Zahid, who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister, said he wants a peaceful, developed and prosperous Malaysia in 2024.

"The year 2024 will open a new episode based on the hopes for prosperity and a more meaningful life. I pledge to remain committed to shouldering the responsibilities given to me," he said in a Facebook post.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, in his New Year's message, called on all Malaysians regardless of race, religion or political ideology to pledge towards strengthening unity.

Fadillah, who is also energy transition and public utilities minister, said unity is the key towards racial harmony and prosperity for the country.

"The bedrock of a country is unity among all levels of its society in aspects including politics, economy and social.

"This is important so that there are no more political games. Instead, we should all focus on economic recovery, developing the country and safeguarding the welfare of the people, especially when we are facing global economic uncertainty and challenging geopolitical tensions," he said in a social media post.

He said the country underwent a 2023 that was politically more stable with smooth governance under the unity government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He said this came about after the political uncertainty that followed the 14th General Election, which saw three prime ministers in under four years.

"These (blessings) are the result of mutual cooperation and support. Thank you to the people of Malaysia," he said. - BERNAMA
