KOTA BARU: The state government has decided to postpone four events in conjunction with the New Year celebrations scheduled to be held tonight due to floods.

Kelantan Youth, Sports and Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) Committee chairman Zamakhshari Muhamad said two of the four events are singing performances while the rest are magic and fireworks shows.

"Based on the current situation in the state of Kelantan, which has been hit by floods in several districts, the format of the New Year celebration 2024 will be changed accordingly.

"This decision is taken as a sign of solidarity and togetherness of the state government with the people who are facing the disaster," he said in his Facebook post today.

Zamakhshari said apart from the four events that will be posponed, another seven religious programmes would be rescheduled.

"For the seven religious events, the state government decided to re-schedule them and they includes maghrib sermons and special prayers," he said.

He said the other are Quran reading, sharing session, selawat and lucky draws.

Kelantan has been hit by the third wave of flood since last week forcing more than 15,000 people to be evacuated.

The most worst affected districts were Pasir Mas and Tanah Merah.
