MELAKA: Thirty couples, including new Muslim converts, unite in a mass wedding reception held in conjunction with the Melaka International Islamic Carnival 2023 (KIAM'23) at the Hang Jebat Stadium grounds here.

Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the ceremony was an annual event organised by the Melaka Islamic Religious Council (MAIM) to fulfil its responsibilities towards Muslim converts.

"This initiative proves that the Melaka government is deeply concerned with the welfare of the people, including Muslim converts, and we support the implementation of various Islamic development programmes through collaboration with non-governmental organisations.

"This mass wedding ceremony is a state government's initiative to assist Muslim converts, particularly in saving money on their wedding expenses," he said when officiating the event today. --BERNAMA
