KUALA LUMPUR: The government needs more realistic leaders, akin to the Democratic Action Party (DAP) Secretary-General, Anthony Loke, who projects a humble image and knows how to respect both friends and adversaries.

Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi said that Loke's leadership style is highly appreciated by many due to the displayed attitude.

However, he pointed out that not all political parties have individuals with such skills, as there are indeed "mischievous children" that can affect any political party.

"Problematic 'mischievous children' exist in any political party, including DAP, because there will be members or leaders who cannot be controlled, speaking as they please and causing trouble for the party," he said in a social media post today.

Earlier, Beruas member of parliament, Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham, suggested that the government appoint experts from non-Islamic backgrounds to assist the Special Committee studying the competence of State Legislative Assemblies in enacting Islamic laws.

In response, the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, instructed non-Muslims to respect and not interfere in matters related to Islamic affairs.

Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, also the National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs Malaysia (MKI) chairman, stated that MKI holds the trust and responsibility to carry out all matters related to Muslims.

Puad stated that statements from individuals like Koo Ham, former DAP publicity secretary Tony Pua, and DAP veteran Tan Sri Lim Kit Siang, who often make controversial statements, are unnecessary.

"However, the way they present their statements each time appears as the party's official stance, which is why some parties have to take disciplinary action, either expelling or suspending their membership. This is not undemocratic but rather a violation of the party's position," he said.

Following Koo Ham's statement, Loke admitted it was a misjudgment and emphasised that his party respects the wisdom of the Sultan of Selangor as the MKI chairman in making decisions.
