KOTA KINABALU: There were 180 people evacuated to temporary relief centres in Sandakan and the Paitan subdistrict due to the flood here today.

This number was higher than the 148 evacuees recorded last night.

Of that total, 152 people are placed at Masjid Nur Iman and Kampung Sungai Memanjang, Sandakan relief centres, an increase of 10 victims compared to 142 people last night.

A new relief centre was also opened last night, involving 27 victims in the Paitan subdistrict who were relocated to the Village Development and Security Committee (JPKK) Cocos house, while the number of evacuees at a relief centre in SMK Pamol, Paitan, remained at six.

The figures are based on the report from the Sabah Disaster Management Committee Secretariat released as of 8am this morning.

The secretariat said floods began in several villages in Paitan, Sabah starting at 2pm yesterday before the SMK Pamol relief centre was opened, followed by the JPKK Cocos house relief centre.

It also said the flood in Kampung Sungai Memanjang, Sandakan began at 3.45 pm yesterday.
