LANGKAWI: Datuk Haslina Abdul Hamid has been appointed as the first female Chief Executive Officer of Langkawi Development Authority (Lada) effective last Friday.

Prior to her appointment as Lada CEO, Haslina had served as the Agriculture and Food Security secretary-general and the deputy secretary-general of the Tourism and Cultural Ministry (Tourism).

Lada through a statement uploaded on its Facebook page welcomed Haslina's appointment to spearhead the agency under the Finance Ministry.

"All Lada management and employees wish to congratulate and welcome Datuk Haslina Abdul Hamid as the new Chief Executive Officer," read the statement.

The Lada CEO post has been vacant since February after Nasaruddin Abdul Muttalib was appointed as the Customs Department's deputy director-general.

For the record, Haslina has been serving in the civil service for the past 27 years.

She holds a Bachelor's degree (Hons) in Economics and Administration from University Malaya and Masters in Law from Keio University of Japan.

Lada was incorporated under the Parliament Act (Act 423) and was established on Mar 15 1990.
