KUALA LUMPUR: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has expressed his disappointment over the United States' veto on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolution for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza.

In a statement, the Comptroller of the Royal Household, Major General Datuk Zahari Mohd Ariffin, said the US veto seemingly condones Israeli brutality, leading to civilian casualties and widespread destruction in Gaza.

"The decision to reject the resolution urging a ceasefire between the Israeli regime and Palestine has effectively thwarted the UNSC's efforts to find a resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

"This choice has resulted in the loss of over 17,000 Palestinian lives, approximately 70 per cent of whom are children and women, with over 48,000 others injured," said Zahari in a statement.

Expressing solidarity, His Majesty supports Malaysia's government stance, in line with the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister's condemnation of the US veto on the United Arab Emirates (UAE) proposed resolution, supported by 102 UN member countries.

Al-Sultan Abdullah called on all citizens to continue to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people and to extend any form of humanitarian assistance to alleviate their burden and suffering.

Zahari said that His Majesty also urged all Malaysians, regardless of race and religion, to join him in praying for the Palestinians according to their respective beliefs.

"In this way, the Israeli-Palestine conflict can be stopped immediately and the Palestinians can be protected, and their homeland freed from the occupation and oppression of the Israeli Zionist regime.

"His Majesty urges mosques, suraus, and the Muslim community to pray for the well-being of the Palestinian people, seeking God's mercy to safeguard their welfare in their homes."
