KOTA TINGGI: Johor Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) confirmed the pugmarks found at Felda Bukit Aping Barat, here, on Thursday, was of a tiger's.

Its director, Aminuddin Jamin, said investigations revealed that the tiger pugmarks was about 4km away from the Gunung Panti forest reserve.

"We are not ruling out the possibility that the tiger had roamed out of the reserved forest, however, we believe it had returned to its natural habitat," he said.

As a precautionary measure, Perhilitan officers are still tracking the tiger and monitoring its movement.

Aminuddin also advised the settlers to immediately alert them if they spotted the tiger, and not to provoke it under any circumstances.

Tigers are protected under the Wildlife Conservation Act 2010 (Act 716) as a totally protected species.

Any offences against tigers, including those caught capturing, killing, hurting it, may face the minimum penalty of RM100,000 or the maximum sentence of up to RM500,000 which includes a five-year imprisonment term.
