BACHOK: The Agriculture and Food Security Ministry (KPKM) is collecting information and assessing the losses suffered by farmers due to floods.

Its Minister, Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, stated that this step is taken to assist the agriculture industry affected by floods on the East Coast.

He said, so far, the information is still being prepared because the monsoon season usually continues until January.

"The agricultural damages (reports) will come to us (the ministry), and we will provide immediate assistance; that is an annual routine.

"Our information will be available after conducting a census; we have officers in every district to facilitate the data collection process," he said when met by reporters at the Parti Amanah Negara's (Amanah) Kelantan State Convention at D'Heritage Resort and Training Centre here today.

He mentioned that the flood losses this year may be lesser as compared to last year, considering the flood situation in Kelantan, Terengganu, and Pahang, which did not occur on a large scale.

"We believe that the country's food supply is currently sufficient," he said.
