KUALA LUMPUR: Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) has identified the cause of the prolonged power disruption at the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI) in Johor Baru.

In a statement, TNB said it had carried out scheduled maintenance of installations at the Main Distribution Substation (PPU) Gerbang Perdana 33/11kV, Johor Baru between 8pm yesterday (Nov 5) and early this morning.

It said during the maintenance works, it installed temporary electricity supply through 10 generators belonging to the BSI to avoid power supply interruption during the period, but one of the generators suffered damages.

"The investigation found there had been repeated damage to one of the generators in question, which was used to provide temporary supply and this resulted in a supply disruption at the premises of the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) building.

"TNB is aware of the Johor government's proposal to consider alternative sources to further strengthen the electricity supply system to the CIQ complex.

"TNB is also working closely with the BSI management to ensure the security and stability of supply to the complex and its surroundings," it said today.

Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi had earlier lambasted TNB following a prolonged power disruption at BSI.

In a Facebook post, he described the prolonged disruption from an initially scheduled electricity supply cut as an "embarrassment" for Johor.

He also shared a TNB announcement regarding the planned service interruption scheduled to occur from 8pm on Tuesday until 4am this morning (Wednesday) for maintenance purposes.
