TUARAN: More people in the bottom 40 (B40) income households to benefit from the MyLesen programme next year, enabling them to obtain a B2 Class licence for motorcycles.
Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the programme is one of the government's efforts to empower the mobility of the people, expanding job, education, and economic opportunities, especially in rural communities.
"The initiative, as presented in the 2024 Budget by the Prime Minister, is highly welcomed by the State Government.
"It involves B2 motorcycle licence, e-hailing, and taxis, with the government bearing the cost of driving tests," he said during the launch of the 2023 MyLesen B2 programme here.
Hajiji said the Federal Government, through the 2023 Budget, has allocated RM2.7 million for the training and examination costs for Class B2 licences in Malaysia, benefiting 9,000 recipients from the B40 group.
Sabah receives a total of 500 quotas for the MyLesen B2 Program, involving two districts, namely Tuaran and Kinabatangan.
"Today, in Tuaran, we will be presenting B2 licences to 246 candidates who have successfully passed the Road Transport Department (JPJ) test.
"The selected recipients are from the B40 group, consisting of beneficiaries of Rahmah Cash Contributions, e-Kasih, Persons with Disabilities (OKU), and zakat recipients."
"The majority of recipients are those who are self-employed, according to "their respective district environments, such as in coastal areas with fishing economic activities and in rural areas where economic activities are based on agriculture.
"The State Government hopes that this initiative can produce competent B2 licence drivers and raise awareness of compliance with road regulations."
