KUALA LUMPUR: The Palestinian Embassy in Malaysia has denied claims that it had asked non-governmental organisations (NGO) to contribute through the embassy.
In a statement, they said that contributions were made under the supervision of Malaysian authorities.
"The embassy and the ambassador have never asked for NGOs to contribute to the Palestinian embassy.
"Unfortunately, certain voices assert that the embassy and the ambassador of the State of Palestine have invited Malaysian NGOs to contribute through us, which is completely false.
"On the contrary, and in the interest of transparency, the embassy has always highlighted that all fundraising operations must be carried out under the supervision, monitoring, and control of Malaysian authorities."
However, the embassy said that, in accordance with the Palestinian Authority in Ramallah, Palestine, they were always ready and would spare no effort to provide assistance and facilitate aid through diplomatic channels, including the Malaysian Foreign Affairs Ministry, Malaysian Embassies in Jordan and Egypt, as well as the Palestinian Red Crescent.
It added that goods and aid intended for Gaza and the West Bank must pass through the Egyptian and Jordanian authorities, respectively.
On Nov 27, Aman Palestin chairman Abdullah Zaik Abdul Rahman, refuted allegations suggesting that Malaysian contributions to Palestine facilitated by NGOs had failed to reach the intended recipients.
He said these claims emerged because of its policy which bypassed the Palestinian embassy and sent donations directly to individuals in the affected region.
Zaik also claimed that the Palestinian embassy's accusation of misconduct against Aman Palestin had ultimately led to the freezing of the latter's bank accounts.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) had earlier taken action by freezing 41 bank accounts linked to Aman Palestin.
This move is part of an investigation probing an alleged misappropriation of RM70 million by the organisation.
