KLANG: An afternoon session teacher, widely recognised as Cikgu Erry, has reportedly passed away this morning due to a suspected heart attack at Bukit Tinggi National School (SK), here.

The demise of Mohd Khariri Mohamad Ramli, better known as Cikgu Erry, was officially confirmed by SK Bukit Tinggi headmaster Adlin Amir Hamzah, in a statement.

According to Adlin, Cikgu Erry, aged 46, breathed his last while conducting group exercises at Tasik Tropika Aman Rimbayu, Telok Panglima Garang, here.

"The ambulance paramedics have confirmed the death.

"We are waiting for the police to take further action.

"The deceased's family has been contacted. That's all. We hope no false news will be spread.

"Please wait for the news from us, the school, and Cikgu Erry's colleagues," he said.

Meanwhile, one of his friends, Muhd Putra Shukri, also shared the sad news through a post on Facebook.

"Peace be upon you all. It is with deep regret that I inform that Cikgu Erry passed away a while ago.

"InsyaAllah, his body will be buried at Ulu Kuang this evening. Further details will be announced later.

"May Allah shower His mercy upon his soul," he said.

Previously Harian Metro reported the story of Cikgu Erry's decades-long experience involved in the transgender community before his transformation.

Among his initiatives in advocacy was being an activist in the non-governmental organisation (NGO) Hijrah, which aimed to assist the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) community, including former transgender individuals.

He spearheaded the NGO in collaboration with the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) and the Perak Islamic Religious Department (JAIPk).

Last May, Cikgu Erry published a book titled 'Forgive Me, God, I Took the Wrong Step' to rectify society's stigma against the LGBT community seeking change.
